Spec Data Management is an apparel software solution, designed and created with the user in mind to simplify the technical data entree process. SDM is a relational data base program with applications to replace the basic Excel and Lotus spread sheet programs.
It is an efficient tool for entering, retrieving, and storing large volumes of data. It is based on forms, reports, tables, sets, and browses. It's header form can totally be customized to fit the needs of the customer, as well as the tables, sets and browses. It’s easy to use drop down menu’s simplify and shorten the data input and output cycle assuring a user to stay on, and exceed a specified schedule. Its administrative menu is also designed to simplify entering the technical data, by easy to use menus for grade rules, and entering points of measuring, which correspond to a measuring guide,
The concept was adopted for the now called Technical Designer / Spec Technician. There are three generations of the program, similar to its competitors,
The Development stage of the garment, then the first, second, third, or maximum fourth fit. Then there is the Pre- Production stage, which includes graded measurement, allowing the vendor to calculate the fabric usage as well as preparing the actual graded patterns. The Pre-Production stage still allows for last minute changes to be made as long as they fit in the production schedule, and vendor’s delivery date. The final stage is the Production approval. Whatever the stage is in the approval process, when the form is submitted as Approved for Production the final fit report is printed or e-mailed along with the final graded specification. All reports can be e-mailed immediately or saved as a combined report for later e-mailing of similar garments using the same reference number, i.e. a tee shirt, jacket and pants, which are part of a set, will be automatically sent together to the vendor.
This software can be utilized on individual workstations, or as a shadow database utilizing enough information to operate the data on the workstation, but retrieving all the information on a server, or shared drive on a network. It is also available on a web browser, utilizing Internet access to utilize the program.
With the economy diminishing throughout the world, it is more critical than ever to make sure your product is as perfect as possible. Negotiating for the right price and hoping to get your desired quality and consistency is more and more difficult. You are most likely in China, Bangladesh; maybe even Vietnam trying to keep your manufacturing price down but at the same time trying to improve your sales, which we all know is not happening as fast as we would like. We need to stay focused, make the product special and design product that you and your staff would wear. There are many products at retail, and yet at the same time for some of us, there is not much to choose from.
So remember, give your company that special edge, the right fit, the right price, and exceptional quality and consistency. Also try and sustain your staff and cut expenses first. “A company is nothing without its people”
