The Directors Bio
I started my career in New York’s oldest pattern service, that was owned by my uncle and named after his family Papaleo Pattern Company which at that time was primarily servicing men’s and boy’s wear industry. During that period in my career I studied pattern drafting, grading and anatomy to make my technical skills more proficient. I had developed my own method of drafting patterns a few years later, and was fortunate to work on Polo, Ralph Lauren’s first women’s wear line, and Calvin Klein’s, first men’s wear line. I worked on Clothing for Yves St. Laurent, and Pierre Cardin in the late 70’s also. I left the company to acquire experience in women’s wear, and became the head patternmaker for St. Cloud a Division for Breckenridge. I returned to the pattern company three years later and started designing for various clients of tailored clothing, and outerwear, specializing in leather. I designed uniforms for Piedmont Airlines, and a line of western wear for Kenny Rogers.
I started traveling to Europe and Asia working on Product Development for new accounts that just started importing. Some of these countries were, Poland, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Romania at that time. Later on I became the Director of Product development for Bon Jour Jeans, which started my travels to Asia. I relocated to Texas
and became the designer for Haggar Apparel in Dallas. I was fortunate to be a part of the re – engineering of their factories and changed the construction of their garments which led to a cost savings of millions of dollars for the year. I left Haggar after two years to become the Director of Manufacturing for Claiborne the new division of Liz Claiborne, and was promoted to Vice President after a few years. I remained at Liz for ten years, and was an initial creator of the Silhouette Pattern Design System, developed by Gerber Garment Technologies. I left Claiborne to become the Vice President of Production for Donna Karan, New York, and was given two divisions of responsibility before six months. I also developed a method of creating women’s garments from men’s by creating specific alteration tables in the computer. By this time I was traveling all over the world to destinations in Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.
I was then offered a position in San Francisco for Esprit De Corp as the Vice President of Technical Services, and created a method of making children’s and infant’s garments from women’s patterns in the Micro Dynamics computer system. I stayed there for over three years then finally moving back east to consult for companies as Abercrombie and Fitch, Camilla Staerk, Casual Male, DKNY Kids, Dual Star [ Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen ] Elise Overland, Generra, J.C. Penney, Kellwood, Limited Brands, Polo Ralph Lauren, Adam Lippes, Andrew Harmon, Tahari, and TC2. I also lived in Mexico to manufacture garments for American Eagle Outfitters.
